This project undertaken at university involved creating a brand identity for a new hotel in Helsinki, Finland. I wanted to create an overall experience, an experience that encapsulated Helsinki and defined Aki-to as a new, modern hotel for tomorrow In order to get a feel for this project I visited Helsinki for a few days to gather research; exploring the city visiting the different museums and art galleries, sampling the local food and enjoying the nightlife. This visit to Helsinki was a useful exercise.
As I experienced the culture of the city I took numerous pictures to use as points of reference. On my return I was able to gather my thoughts and could now complete my detailed research in order to create my vision for this hotel, using my experience to create the experience. Once I had my vision for Aki-to I was able to create the branding; creating a logo and colour scheme, which is used throughout. It was important for me to establish brand guidelines to help create this Aki-to experience. Using the guidelines I was able to create the main hotel brochure and brochure and information cards found in the rooms in a style that is consistent with the design of the hotel as a whole.
